St. Luke's Breast Cancer Surgeon reminds people no to delay cancer screenings

A surgeon at St. Luke's is reminding people to not delay cancer screenings, even in the middle of a pandemic.

In April, St. Luke's held off on non-essential cancer screenings due to a backlog.

Administrators have since added new technologists and more time slots to meet the demand.

One of the hospital's Breast Cancer Surgeons says you don't want to delay screenings.

" Even in these scary times where we are all worried about exposure to COVID, we need to be mindful of both the present danger as well as the risk of putting things off and not catching preventable cancers early with both colonoscopy and mammograms, " Dr. Rhiana Menen said.

Dr. Menen says you don't need a referral from your doctor to get a cancer screening.

She says if you have any questions, reach out to your primary care provider.
